Ward-based Health Care Support Worker roles

If you’re looking for an opportunity to learn new skills and maybe take your first steps into a worthwhile and rewarding career in the NHS, then this training opportunity is for you.

North Bristol NHS Trust want to appoint 15 young people on training courses, starting in early June.

The six-to-eight-week courses will entail working in different areas of Southmead Hospital in Bristol, working hands-on with our teams as a Health Care Support worker, and also doing one or two days a week on Employability, English and Maths study.

Training will be overseen by experts from Swatpro Academy, who have years of experience at helping people acquire new skills and settle into new jobs. At the end, you will gain a Level 1 City and Guilds Employability with Maths, English and Digital Skills.

On finishing your course, you will then be guaranteed an interview for a permanent role in the hospital. 93% of people who take this training have progressed on to study for an apprenticeship and for many it has been the start of a career in nursing or other healthcare jobs.

Who can apply?

A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. Our traineeships last between 6weeks to 10 weeks on average, with the possibility for up to 12 months if required. You can apply if you are:

  • Eligible to work in England.
  • Unemployed and have little or no work experience.
  • Aged 19 to 24 and qualified up to and including Level 3.

Qualities you need

Applicants do not need any formal qualifications, but must have a passion for helping others, a commitment to improving themselves and the motivation to learn.
