Details of the Standard
Metal Fabricators manufacture and repair anything that can be fabricated from metal, such as bridges, oil rigs, ships, cranes, platforms, aircraft components, machinery parts and metal enclosures. They work with a wide range of metals, including steel, aluminium and titanium, and may work in factories or on operational sites, either independently or as part of a team. Their role includes interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, planning and preparing work, checking materials, marking out, cutting, shaping, forming, assembling and joining metal components, and checking finished work against required quality standards. They are responsible for the quality and accuracy of their own work, while working safely and protecting the health, safety and environment of those around them.

Summary of End-Point-Assessment
Summary of EPA
The end-point assessment must begin within 3 months of the apprentice meeting gateway requirements. The EPA consists of two assessment methods:
Assessment method 1: Practical observation, including questioning. This is typically a 6-hour observation and is graded pass or fail.
Assessment method 2: Professional discussion, informed by a portfolio of evidence, graded fail, pass or distinction.
The overall apprenticeship is graded fail, pass or distinction.
Progression
Progression could include a higher apprenticeship or qualification, or progression into senior fabricator, team leader or supervisory roles.
