Overview of the Role
The Operational Firefighter Level 3 Apprenticeship prepares learners with the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to respond confidently and professionally to a wide range of emergency situations.
Details of the Standard
Apprentices will develop expertise in fire prevention, incident response, rescue techniques, community safety and working effectively as part of a disciplined team. The programme also builds resilience, communication and problem-solving skills, ensuring firefighters are ready to protect the public, support their communities and operate safely in demanding environments.

English and Maths
For learners over 19, we will support learners to achieve if they and their employer decide to take this route. However, reading, speaking & listening, writing and maths are built into the programme
Curriculum Overview
Community safety and prevention, fire behaviour and emergency incident response, search, rescue and casualty care, hazardous environments and breathing apparatus, working safely at height and around water, incident command, communication and multi-agency working, equipment testing and operational readiness, and risk awareness, legislation, personal performance, resilience and teamwork.
Summary of End-Point-Assessment
EPA is made up of a knowledge test, a practical observation, and a professional discussion
Progression
On completion, apprentices can progress as a competent Operational Firefighter, with longer-term opportunities to move into specialist roles or supervisory positions such as Crew Manager and Watch Manager within the fire and rescue sector.
