AI & Automation in Everyday work: What’s actually being used by organisations today?

Introduction: AI is here 🤖 For many of us, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is still a futuristic concept isolated to the realms of scientific fiction, but the truth is that AI is now an everyday reality. AI is already imbedded in both our personal and professional lives. It is being used to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and reduce the time people spend on repetitive tasks across a wide range of industries. According to recent research, around 78% of organisations now use AI in at least one business function (source), whilst at around 60% of companies are using at least one automation tool within their everyday operations (source). What’s more, these percentages are rising every day. This should be unsurprising given that some data suggests that 94% of workers are still performing repetitive tasks that could either be shortened with AI or be completely automated (source). Science fiction often presents AI as a system that takes over human jobs, but the operational reality is different. AI and automation are not replacing work; they are transforming HOW work gets done by freeing up workers from repetitive tasks and allowing them to focus on what’s important. Let’s explore how some examples of how AI and automation is being used today.
