Puffins Training was formed in 1992. We began by offering NVQs in Early Years Care and Education, as we valued work based learning for early years practitioners. Today, we offer a wide range of Early Years and Management training to both experienced staff and those who want to achieve qualifications through work-based learning.
Puffins Training is an Employer Training provider based in Exeter and Torquay. We predominantly train Apprentices in our own 6 childcare settings. We do, however, offer high quality training to external providers and endeavour to meet their individual needs when providing that training.
A significant part of our training takes place in the workplace, however we also have a fully equipped training suite in Exeter.
We provide Apprenticeship training for L2 and L3 Apprentices through the children and young people’s workforce pathway. We provide a mix of training both on and off the job. Typically, our learners attend our dedicated training centre for one day a week and attend their placement for a further 3 days.
Our intermediate apprentices work a 30 hour week over 4 days. We feel this provides a really good foundation for work life balance. Each of our Apprentices has access to a plethora of support in order to successfully complete their programme and progress in their career.
When in placement Apprentices have mentors to support them personally, and on the job training manuals to support their qualification.
At Puffins, there is a dedicated Learning and Support Manager who regularly meets with Apprentices in order to offer information, advice and guidance. Apprentices are released for off the job training on a weekly basis.This is undertaken at our fully equipped training suite. All of the sessions are well planning using high quality learning material as well as being delivered through a range of teaching methods.
All of our Assessors/Tutors have teaching qualifications, and most have post graduate qualifications. All have held senior positions within nurseries and have experience of practical higher management. Apprentices also have access to high quality on line learning.

We train on the job at the learners workplace, have day release sessions in our Exeter training centre, and use online learning.
